Jehovah Jireh – The Lord Will Provide

And Abraham called the name of the place,The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

Genesis 22:14

Is there something weighing heavy on your heart? You feel as though the road ahead is not clear and you’re not sure how everything will workout.

It could be relationships, finances, career, health, your children, your grandchildren, or so many other things… the list is truly endless. There are many hidden burdens that we can carry around with us. Spiritually, we feel weighed down, depleted, as the burdens of our world hang on our shoulders.

We would like to offer you some encouragement today. When the road ahead seems unclear and you cannot seem to see God in the midst of your circumstances, remember Abraham.

Jehovah Jireh, the Lord will provide.

Here is a little backstory that leads to our story today, God gave Abraham a promise. He told him that he would have a son in his old age. Abraham had a son with his wife when he was about 100 years old. The road to the fulfillment of this promise was anything but easy, but God had given him his promised heir.

In Genesis 22 we are told of the account of Abraham and the testing of his faith. God commanded Abraham to sacrifice his promised son, Issac. Abraham in his obedience to God, gathered the needed supplies to build an altar and began their 3-4 days journey to Mount Moriah to do as God commanded.

I will never understand why God tested Abraham this way. I try to imagine what the journey up the mountain was like for them. Did Issac know? What did they talk about? Was Abraham speaking to his son as though it was his last days? What type of emotions were running through Abraham’s mind? All of the questions he must’ve thought. Why God? But he was your promise to me? Did Abraham think about turning back?

During this journey, Abraham carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. The path ahead was not clear. BUT, he kept moving forward and he kept trusting God even when he was unsure of the end results.

For Abraham, the Lord did not require Issac as a sacrifice instead THE LORD PROVIDED, Jehovah Jireh, in an unexpected way.

God is working the unexpected in our lives too!

Though our journey may be unclear. We can trust that we serve a good God who will make a way when there seems to be no way. Jehovah Jireh, THE LORD WILL PROVIDE and meet our needs in the most unexpected ways.

God revealed that He is the provider to Abraham and then He declared a NEW Promise over Abraham’s life.

And the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven and said, “By myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,  I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies,  and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.”

Genesis 22:16-18

God has a new promise waiting for you just on the other side of this trial. Remain faithful and trust God.

The best is yet to come!

Many Blessings,

Misty
